'Always' is a tricky word, while a .zip file is convenient to use, and good for keeping resources together a .zip file is an additional abstraction layer (that is, you have to decompress the data and then process it). If the time to decompress the data takes a long time, and does not save you very much space, seek alternative options!
Git is a tool we have been using to manage text assets. Do you think git manages things like images, 3d models, or binary files well?

No, it is hard to track changes of binary files. In addition, each revision of a file might mean storing lots of data between each assets data. For this course, it is probably okay since we are working in small teams and not working with 100s of artists on a project.
