The Normal West Black Student Union is seeking Board members for the 2023-2024 school year.  The success of the Normal West Black Student Union is dependent on active Board Members that are continuously involved and dedicated wholeheartedly.  

If selected for the Normal West Black Student Union's 2023-2024 Board, you will need to meet with the current Board members to further discuss your role and duties.

The Board Positions:

1. President-
a.) In charge of Normal West BSU and oversees all Board affairs
b.)  Provides leadership and direction for Normal West BSU
c.)  Conduct both board and all-member meetings
d.) Delegates Assignments to other officers
e.) Creates and oversee Committees
f.)  Appoints Committee Chairs
g.) Manages and oversees social media posts and website

2.  Vice President-
a.) Prepared at all times to assume the role of board president and may serve in the
President's place for board activities as a spokesperson
b.) Assists president with necessary tasks
c.) Assist other Board Officers

3. Secretary-
a.) Informs all members when meetings occur
b.) Takes attendance
c.) Designs agenda and calendar and goes over them with the Board before presenting to members
e.) Records meeting notes (minutes) or designates someone else to do so
f.)  Keeps a record of all members, committees, opportunities and activities that Normal West BSU has participated in within the organization
g.) Maintains board records-keeps them confidential, secure, and accurate
h.)  Creates and distributes any necessary records
i.) Encourages alumni to update their personal information on the online alumni directory
j.) Informs Board Officers of deadlines

4. Treasurer
a.) Maintains accurate financial records
b.) Plans, initiates, and executes fundraisers
c.) Deposits money into BSU's account
d.) Reports BSU's funds when necessary
e.) Prepares and monitors the budget
f.) Helps fundraise money for BSU and other local organizations

5. Organizational Outreach Coordinator-
a.) Reach out to community members, community leaders, and organizations well.
b.) Make connections and cultivate relationships.
c.) Outreach will spread the word on social media, in the town, and to friends and family about BSU events.
d.) Outreach will find a multitude of volunteering and fundraising opportunities .
e.) Outreach will add to the calendar for the entire year, and update it as they see fit.
f.) Keeps track of volunteers and participants by helping the Secretary take attendance at every meeting and event.

6. Historian -
a.) continually and avidly educates themselves on black history.
b.)  In charge or making sure that West (and Unit 5)  curriculums are diverse and inclusive.
d.)  Only uses credible resources.
e.)  Come up with documents/posters/graphics/projects to educate the school on black culture and history (i.e. why the N word is bad).

7. Social Outreach Coordinator 
a.) Takes photos during all BSU activities (or assigns someone to do so)
b.) Prepares and sends out media releases
c.) Stays in contact with local media outlets
d.) Regularly posts on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
e.) May create a website for the Normal West BSU
