The 2023 West Broad Farmers Market Red Velvet Cake Showdown

Location: 300 S Rocksprings Street Athens, GA 30606

Date & Time: 6/17/23 Drop-off deadline is 12:00 PM noon day-of. Contest and judging - 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM.

The contest is free to enter.

Amateur bakers are invited to the West Broad Farmers Market to compete by bringing the best red velvet cake in Athens, GA. Cakes without ingredients will not be accepted, for purposes of safety.

Entries are required to be a red velvet cake of any variety. Entries must be in by 12:00 PM NOON at the market tent.

Use a sticker (or masking tape) listing your name and phone number ON THE BOTTOM of any container brought to the market. All containers will be available for pick-up right after the contest (at 2 PM).

Please bring 1 cake of any size that is sufficiently covered or in a closed container. Plan on there being 6 small servings for evaluation. If you’re using a reusable dish, use a sticker (or masking tape) listing your name and phone number ON THE BOTTOM of the dish. All dishes will be available for pick-up right after the contest.

Contestants may serve cake to the public afterwards. But it is done so at their discretion and at their own risk.

Anticipate 3 judges for 2 rounds. Judges to be announced shortly.

Round one will be a heat to narrow down finalists. Finalists will have their own following round to compare side-by-side for placement.

Contestants will have an opportunity to speak on the mic and make their appeal to the crowd and judges. Attendance is encouraged but not required.

The prize will be a Farmers Market Tote filled with an item from each vendor.
