About the course: Public Forum is one of three debate formats and involves students writing a for and against the case for a particular resolution. Students will then debate at tournaments against their peers with the winner being decided by whose case and narrative was more persuasive.
Course objectives: The intention of this class is to teach the students how to debate. Using a holistic and ground-up approach, we intend to demonstrate how to research, articulate and deliver complex information in a comprehensible manner while having fun.
- Structure - Understanding the fundamentals of debate (case writing, how to argue, etc)
- Argumentation - Strategies, Confidence, Public Speaking, Delivery, More Technical Aspects
- Real-World Applications - How debate translates to the real world
- Experience - Plenty of drills and practice rounds
Materials needed: Computer with internet access, Google Docs
About the teacher: Hi, I am Nemerjit Singh, a junior at Evergreen Valley High School. I am a member of the Speech and Debate Club at Evergreen Valley High School and I am ranked top 200 in the nation and I have won a prestigious Silver Tournament of Champions Bid at La Costa Canyon. Additionally, I was a top 5 speaker at Badgerland and have had winning records at many tournaments in varsity.
