SF Choral Auditions
Welcome! We're glad to have you audition for SF Choral! The audition assesses vocal technique and musicianship/reading skills. The process includes: a warm up; a vocalization to evaluate range, intonation and vocal production; an exercise to evaluate accuracy of singing back a series of notes played on the piano; and  sight-reading a 4-measure piece. Sample elements evaluated include breath preparation, breath support, naturally produced vowels, relaxed larynx, relaxed jaw, good posture, normal vibrato, ability to identify key, solfège skills, and ability to sing correct pitches and rhythms.

Each singer who is accepted into the chorus will be placed in one of three categories (1, 2, or 3):

Category 1. Skills are above the required level. Singers will not need to re-audition unless three consecutive performance sets are missed (excluding the annual Festival of Carols).

Category 2. Skill are at the required level. Singers must re-audition if one performance set is missed (excluding the annual Festival of Carols).

Category 3.Skills need development. Singers must re-audition for each performance set (including the annual Festival of Carols).
