Registration for the "Digital Educators Summit 2022" of the European Youth Parliament
The "Digital Educators Summit 2022" is a platform where the European Youth Parliament wants to bring together both educators from formal and non-formal settings to exchange about the challenges that civic education is facing amidst a state of multiple crises across the continent, as well as about the instruments that we may hold in our hands for our work in school classes, youth centers and seminar rooms.

This event is designed for the teachers' networks from the EYP network as an opportunity to connect with their colleagues from all over Europe. We are also very much welcome anyone inside and outside our network who is interested or works in the educational field.

We have prepared four sessions to learn and exchange about methods, tools and formats with a focus on active citizenship, peacebuilding and digitalisation. Two of them are intertwined with the teachers' programme of our upcoming flagship event, Kortrijk 2022 - 97th International Session of the European Youth Parliament. More information about our flagship event can be found here: www.kortrijk2022.be.

The registration for the sessions is possible until 20:00 CEST on the day before they happen. We will send out the access details to the video conferencing platforms to the registered participants' email inboxes. Please read the outlines below:

SESSION #1:
  • Date & Time: Monday, 31st of October, 14:30 - 16:00 CEST
  • Title: "EYP Peaceful Talks: The role of educators in peacebuilding"
  • Format: Discussion with guests and room for participants' questions and remarks
  • Content: Among many other youth networks, the EYP showcases the importance of youth involvement in building a brighter future. It is aiming to offer meaningful contribution in making young Europeans peace-oriented, understanding, and open-minded individuals. But what exactly can be the role of educators in peacebuilding? How can peace education look like? And what are prospects and limits for youth networks to engage here? Participants will learn about the perspectives of invited professionals from the field and other youth organisations running educational programmes on European topics.
SESSION #2:
  • Date & Time: Tuesday, 1st of November, 16:30 - 17:45 CEST
  • Title: "Getting up from the school desks? Participatory methods in the classroom"
  • Format: Interactive digital input and exchange on small and easy-to-inplement ideas
  • Content: Participants will be receiving a short input and then have the time to exchange about their best practices and experiences on how participatory methods can be used (more) in the classroom. The exchange explicitly does not only want to target teachers but invites everyone to bring their ideas.
SESSION #3:
  • Date & Time: Tuesday, 1st of November, 18:00 - 19:15 CEST
  • Title: "Heard about the Metaverse? New settings for (digital) education"
  • Format: Interactive digital input and exchange on alternatives to online classes
  • Content: Participants will be receiving a short input and then have the time to exchange about their thoughts on different educational settings that allow for asynchronical or blended learning, e.g. through world-like platforms, gamification or using social media as means for learning.
SESSION #4:
  • Date & Time: Wednesday, 2nd of November, 14:00 - 15:30 CEST
  • Title: "Peace in Europe: Digital and Virtual Reality Peacebuilding"
  • Format: Interactive hybrid workshop to get to know a method and materials
  • Content: Participants will be presented with the content and activities from the workshop "Peace in Europe: Digital and Virtual Reality (VR) Peacebuilding" based on the project Color Up Peace, a visual art-for-peace project that invites people from all over the world to submit photos of what peace represents to them. The workshop is designed to be held in schools and soon will be published as an open educational resource (OER) to be used by teachers and educators for free.
  • Facilitator: PhD student Lisa Glybchenko (UA) has created it as part of her PhD research project "Visual Peacetech" and will facilitate the session in a hybrid format. Lisa has been Fellow of the "Thinking of Europe" programme by the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft and the Schwarzkopf Foundation as part of the Understanding Europe network, cooperation partner of the European Youth Parliament. More information can be found here: www.understanding-europe.org
The event is facilitated by Janis Fifka (DE) and Marie Cucurella (FR). Janis is a member of the international board of the European Youth Parliament and civic educator himself. Marie is a staff member at the international office of the European Youth Parliament, where she manages activities focused on organisational development and capacity building. Previously she has been a youth trainer and project coordinator, e.g. working together with the Youth Peace Ambassadors Network and the International Peace Bureau.
