The “Brister English Project” was made to help American descendants of slavery connect with a past we thought may have been lost.

Named after my 2nd great grandfather, who was born into slavery. I remember the feeling of seeing his name on a slave ship manifest. To see him listed as property, as just another number, to him owning property. To raising good children, who had great ones. I just want to let that 14 year old boy on that slave ship know, it got better.

With donations, we can take someone from this list and get them started on a journey. Every donation will not only help someone find out about their ancestry but could spark something big in the black community. Call it "Reparations for Research".
