Super Cluster Athletics 2020
Congratulations to your child who has been selected to represent Murrays Bay Primary School at Super Cluster Athletics. Our school will be taking a team from Year 4-6 based on results from the athletics day held last week.

When - Wednesday, 25 November 2020. Meet at the flagpole 8:40am (students will be back before the 3:00pm bell).  Please note there is no save date, if the event is cancelled it will not be rescheduled.

Where - AUT Millennium,  17 Antares Place, Rosedale.

What to bring - Students are to wear full sports uniform and the school bucket hat.
Everyone needs to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and sunscreen (no lunch orders please).

Students will travel by bus to this event. Please meet Mrs Sadler at the flagpole at 8:30am on the day of the competition.  Busses leave at 840am
 
Programme for the day will be emailed out next week

Training - As a part of training for this event students have been working in sports lessons on correct technique. Please listen carefully to daily notices for further lunch time training sessions particularly for relay teams in the coming week.  
 
Track Events:
On the Super cluster Day all track events will be run in set lanes. Murrays Bay students will run in lanes as indicated below.

Year 4 MBPS will run in LANE 4
Year 5 MBPS will run in LANE 5
Year 6 MBPS will run in LANE 6

100m
There will be 2 heats for each gender/ year group.
Fastest 8 runners times will go through to the final. If the photo timer fails, we will take the top 4 from each heat for the final.

200m and 400m
There will be 2 heats for each gender/ year group.
Please make your students know that these races are TIMED FINALS. The overall top 8 places will be the 8 fastest times as determined by the electronic timer.

800m
This will be a straight final starting on a curved line start.
Runners cut into the inside lane as soon as it is safe to do so and can run the race in the inside lane.


Field Event Guidelines

Discus
Weights will be as follows:
Year 4 Girls/boys (500g discus)
Year 5 Girls /boys (750g discus)
Year 6 Girls/boys  (750g discus)
Each thrower will get one practise throw and two throws

High Jump
Starting heights outlined, increments at the discretion of event manager:
Year 4 Girls (start 90cm)
Year 4 Boys (start 95cm)
Year 5 Girls (start 1m)
Year 5 Boys (start 1.05m)
Year 6 Girls (start 1.05m)
Year 6 Boys (start 1.10m)

Only scissors or Fosbury flop are allowed. Please let me know ahead of time which students have permission to do the fosbury flop. For safety reasons this should only be for students who are trained to do so. This will be highlighted on the recording sheet of names.
Students get two attempts at each height.

Shot Put
Weights will be as follows:
Year 4 Girls/boys (1.5Kg shot)
Year 5 Girls/boys (2 Kg shot)
Year 6 Girls (2 Kg shot)
Year 6 Boys (3 Kg shot)
Each thrower will get one practise throw and two throws.

Long Jump
Students will jump off a colour board.
Each student will get two measured jumps.
No jumps- Only if students step over the top edge of the colour board.
