Oakhill Food Justice Farm
Calling out to all local residents of the Darebin area!
We are looking to gauge local interest and ask for your thoughts around the development of an urban farm in Preston: "The Oakhill Food Justice Farm".
The site is located at the old Vicarage of Saint Mary's church on 233 Tyler street, in the Oakhill precinct. Currently in its beginning stages of development, Oakhill Food Justice Farm is an evolving social and environmental initiative, coordinated by Sustain: The Australian Food Network, in partnership with Darebin City Council, Melbourne Anglican Trust Corporation, as well as numerous other stakeholders, community groups, and now you!
Our goal is to establish a thriving urban community farm, food forest and composting program by establishing and training a strong, dedicated network of volunteer farmers & custodians. Sustain will host short courses, workshops & participatory tours which will fund the self-sustaining operations of the farm.
The space will be a vibrant hub for diverse communities to connect and build resilience & skills. The produce of the farm will be directed to local communities & food relief agencies.
Sustain has also partnered with Bridge Darebin to create an Introduction to Urban Farming short course (pre-accredited vocational training, approved by the State Department of Education), with the intention to partner with Learn Local members to extend this training to disadvantaged youth and other interested community members, building skills, capacities, confidence and creating pathways to further training and employment.
We believe this vision is only possible through community participation & self-determination. We would like to hear from the community their ideas for the Oakhill Community Food Justice Farm.
We appreciate you investing five to ten minutes of your time in this survey. No questions are mandatory and you can elect to contribute anonymously if you wish!
