Interest Form for "History Is Now"
History is Now is an after-school guide training program at Historic Cherry Hill for high school students in the city of Albany.

HIN PROGRAM DATES 
After School Training: 4:30-6:30pm, Thursdays Nov. 2022 - June 2023
Summer Youth Employment: Monday- Friday, mid-July - mid-August 2023, specific dates & times TBD

BENEFITS
Through this program, students will investigate how history affects our lives, through a local lens.
-Gain skills in public speaking, historical thinking, and interpretation, applicable for college, work, and life.
-Meet local professionals in the fields of history, academia, government, the arts and public advocacy groups, and hear the paths they've taken in their own lives.
-Visit other local history sites, with behind-the-scenes tours with local experts.
-Join a diverse and supportive group of students from a variety of Albany schools!

Volunteer Hours:  Participants earn up to 65 hours of volunteer credits, November 2022-June 2023

Employment:  Students who complete the program will be eligible as paid tour guides at Historic Cherry Hill for 5 weeks, July-August 2022, through the city of Albany's LIGHT Summer Youth Employment Program.
In 2022, students worked 20 hours per week, Monday- Friday, and earned $13.20 per hour. Historic Cherry Hill was recognized as a “ Work Site of the Year” by the city of Albany in 2022.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Students in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade (at least age 14 by spring of 2023) who live in the City of Albany.

No work experience is necessary, and students do not need to have a certain grade point average or level of academic achievement to apply. Students need only complete this form and commit to completing the program. Students under the age of 18 will need signed permission from a parent or guardian to participate.

COVID-19 PROTOCOL
Masks are currently recommended but not required, regardless of vaccination status. We will continue to follow the most current recommendations from the CDC and NYS Department of Health, according to Albany County transmission rates.
