2021-22 Sixth Grade Procedures & Expectations
Below are the procedures and expectations that students and families should be familiar with as we begin this exciting year! 6th grade is a year of gaining independence in preparation for junior high. Many of the procedures and expectations set forth here are designed to guide your student towards greater independence and we look forward to partnering with our families to support and prepare students for the road ahead. Topics are listed in alphabetical order. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this material, please contact your child's teacher. Thank you for your support!

Absent Work:
• Students have as many days as they are absent to make up all work missed.
• It is the student’s responsibility to get with the teacher for make-up work.
•The student Absentee Coordinator who will gather the absent student’s work and take it to the front office if requested by the student or parent.
• If a student is absent on the day a long-term assignment is due, it is due the FIRST day the student returns to school.

• Students should be reading an AR book in their level at all times. They should bring it to school daily and it home for nightly reading.
• AR progress is tracked every Friday and noted in the student’s leadership binder.
• Students will set point goals each quarter. Five of the total points earned each quarter should be non-fiction.
•Stu dents will be expected to complete 3 independent AR projects each quarter. Students will choose from a menu of options for these projects and due dates will be provided by their teacher.
• AR projects will be graded using a rubric.

• When the first bell rings at 8:35, students will line up in the designated area on the playground. (Signs are posted on orange cones the first week of school so students know where to go.)
• Students will enter the school and classroom quietly and unpack quickly to get ready for the day.
