Team Registration - Sculpture Day Family Contest!
Event Timing: Saturday March 23rd 12:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.
Event Address: Aurora Matheson Fine Art Gallery 221 Martin Street 
(Next door parking lot belonging to City Centre Fitness)

Rules:
  • Each team must have at least one adult and one child. Maximum team size is 6.
  • The team and all materials must be at the City Centre Gym Parking lot for assembly by 10:00 A.M, Saturday. Earlier set-up is possible. No earlier than 9:00 A.M. March 23, 2024. 
  • Assembly must be completed by 3:00 P.M.
  • Teams will be required to remove their works no later than 5 P.M.
  • Please enter from the lane.
  • Contact person for direction to your station will be Pat Evans, who you will find in the parking lot or in the Gallery.
  • All entries must have a title, please create your own sign.
  • Pre cutting at home is encouraged and some assembly can take place prior to the event however significant assembly must take place on site.
  • Teams are responsible for transportation and removal from the assembly area of all materials, tools and finished sculptures. 
  • The size of your sculpture can be small to large – work with what you and your team can reasonably assemble.  Your sculpture must stand on its own so remember to design a base.
  • Safety of your team and the public is critical so bring plastic, rubber or other protective gloves,  Use protective eyewear if you will be drilling or sanding and If you need a ladder bring a step style and ensure it is in good condition.
  • Remember pails, rags and tarps for clean up 



What to expect:

  • There will be professional sculptors on site to mentor and support your creative process.
  • Awards will be at 3:30 P.M.
  • We will have a photographer on site to help you capture the moments.
  • Power is limited. If you require more power for your project please use a battery powered tool.
  • Wear warm clothes and bring umbrellas for sun or rain.

If you want to bring a tent or a propane heater, please do so for your comfort. 

You never know what the weather might be!


Safety:

• Beware of chemicals in materials – read instructions on adhesives, paints etc. Do not mix without doing your research.  Choose non-toxic where ever possible.

• Bring plastic, rubber or other protective gloves.

• Use protective eyewear if you will be drilling or sanding.

If you need a ladder bring a step style and ensure it is in good condition.


Get Started:

• Have a team meeting to discuss your ideas.

• Choose a theme or subject,  it's up to you and your team!

• Have fun brainstorming ideas and ensure all team members, young and older, have input.

Where to find inspiration:

• Nature, Books, Web searches, your imagination!

Material ideas:

• cardboard, card stock, boxes, found objects, broken items, glass beads, jewellery, tins, hardware, felt, buttons, kitchen utensils, gears, bike parts, bottle caps, plastic items, paint, cloth, old purses, tassels, old toys, old books, gears, bike parts, string, rope, wire, metal, rocks, concrete, stones, sand

Where to find materials:

• recycle bins, thrift stores, yard sales, dollar stores, your cupboards, the Restore, free wood piles (e.g. pallets)*

*Always ask before you take pallets, scrap wood, concrete etc. Watch out for pointy nails!
