Investigative Biology Petition
All UW Bothell Biology students must complete the "Investigative Biology" requirement in order to earn their degree.

There are several ways to complete this requirement:
— B BIO 495 (Investigative Biology). This is the default option. You do not need to petition for this class.
— B BIO 499 (5 credits Undergraduate Research) or other Biology-related research at UW Bothell.
— 5 credits of Undergraduate Research at another institution, such as UW Seattle.
— At least 150 hours of a research internship, job, or similar experience.

Please keep in mind:
— The experience must be research with sufficient biological focus. Simply working in a lab learning techniques or doing routine tasks will not count for this requirement. Research that is not biological, such as surveying patients on the quality of their health care, will also not count.
— The experience does not have to be volunteer-based. It is okay if you are paid.
— You do not need to earn credit to fulfill the requirement, but you still must earn a minimum of 180 credits to receive a degree from UW Bothell.
— All biology students MUST present their research at the UW Bothell Research Symposium or a School of STEM Capstone Event. To sign up for a STEM Capstone Event, go to the UWB Biology Student Forms and Resources website, then, look for the Capstone Sign Up link (or copy the link here: https://forms.gle/qcjxJn4LBvJcSQMr8). For other questions and concerns about the Research Symposium, You can also contact our Symposium Coordinator, Janet McDaniel, at macdee@uw.edu.

To fill out this form, you will need to have ready information on the following:

— Date ranges of research, work hour estimates, and course/credit information (if any)
— A DETAILED description of research goals, responsibilities, methods/techniques, ways in which the research will be reported, and ways in which your work will be evaluated.
