SUMA Student Roundtable Survey
On June 2nd, the Earth Institute sent out a statement with its response to the Black Lives Matter movement, highlighting the integral connections between climate change and racial justice. The statement sparked an eagerness to learn more about what the University is planning and how we can play a role.

We need YOUR INPUT in order to discuss, critique and work through the various ways that we as graduate students in the SUMA program might be able to support a deeper understanding and practice of social equity and environmental justice.

WHY: Members of the student body will be meeting with SUMA's administration to work on how to address inequity and racism within our curricula and academic structures, and we want to make sure your voice is included. We join many students on campus who want to see this change, and are having similar conversations.

The prompts below are included to help facilitate ideas & solutions, though there are open sections as well - please answer any or all as you see fit. All responses will be kept anonymous, unless you state that you wish otherwise.

Please complete by Sunday, Aug. 9th, if possible. Though if you need more time, please email president@sumasa.org and we will accommodate so your voice can be heard! Please forward this to alumni who may be interested, too.

How satisfied are you with the Earth Institute's Statement on the Black Lives Matter movement? *
What concerns do you have in regards to institutional racism, Black Lives Matter, and environmental justice that you would like the SUMA program or the Earth Institute to address? (Bullet points or sentences are fine, whichever is best for you)
What is our role as sustainability managers to address inequity and racism in our work?
Suggestions on how to move forward: How can our program become more anti-racist? How can the program work to not promote or perpetuate, but challenge institutional racism?
What changes do you want to see within the SUMA program (new classes, faculty hires, curricular changes, capstones, opportunities, workshops, scholarships, etc.)? Any ideas on how can we get there?
Have other academic institutions adequately implemented anti-racist measures at the administrative and/or curricular levels that you are aware of? (Please share if you have examples - What has been successful, or what has been inadequate in these approaches?)
What questions would you like to ask the administration?
Anything else you would like to add?
If you would like to write your name and email, please do so here. Otherwise, your responses will be kept anonymous. (However is best for you!)
Your voice helps make the SUMA program better.  Thank you!
