Summer Apprentice Teacher Enrollment Form

The LoMastro Apprentice Teacher (LAT) Leadership Program offers our students the chance to develop additional dance and life skills while assisting our faculty in teaching our younger students. Students enrolling in the program will assist their designated full-time faculty member in an assigned class/camp. The apprentice teacher will be given a certain amount of responsibility and will become a fundamental part of the class/camp for both the students and teachers.  This is a volunteer program during which dancers will learn invaluable leadership skills. 

Prerequisite to Enroll:

  • 11-15 Years Old
  • Currently enrolled in at least 1 class per week at LoMastro​
  • Available to commit to at least 2 weeks of summer camp (need not be consecutive.)

Interested dancers should enroll in the dates they are committed to being a LAT by completing this enrollment form.   There is a $80 fee which includes 2 LAT shirts which serve as the LAT uniform. Enrollment for Summer LAT Leadership Program are processed as they come in.  The deadline to enroll is May 1.

Apprentice Requirements:
- Attend all assigned classes/camps.
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to class/camp start time
- Attempt to find qualified substitute assistant during absences
- Learn choreography and assist with performances/recital
- Help teachers manage classroom
- Represent LoMastro in a positive manner in the lobby and around families
Apprentice Duties:
- Gather and line-up students in the lobby area five minutes prior to start time
- Dance full-out at all times
- Assist teacher when rotating lines
- Accompany children to the restroom
- Distribute notices or literature to students
- Ensure that children are getting along—assist in keeping the peace
- Set up and remove tumbling mats if applicable
- Distribute teaching tools and/or props used during class
- Identify and assist students who may be struggling with movement
- Maintain awareness of safety within the classroom, including but not limited to: spilled water, untied shoelaces, wandering students, children hanging from ballet barres, chewing gum, etc.
- Assist students with: changing shoes, moving from classroom to another, etc.
- Accompany students to the waiting area at the conclusion of class
- May be responsible managing music for the class
- May be asked to assist students who need extra help with choreography
- May be asked to lead a warm-up or other curriculum
- May be asked to contribute to choreography
 -Maintain an encouraging attitude during class
Reasons for dismissal from the program:
- Absences from their assigned class/camp without at least 3 hours notice.
- Inappropriate behavior or language
- Lack of enthusiasm
- Activities unbecoming of a role model
- There are legitimate complaints from students, parents, or the teachers that they assist
- Use of cell phones or any similar device during class
