WHY ARE WE OFFERING A VIRTUAL PROGRAM AND DELAYING ON-SITE?
We desire to safely and responsibly run a modified summer program. The purpose of the virtual summer program is to provide children ages 3 through rising grade 6 with a sense of community, consistency, the ability to safely make new friends, and give the parents a needed break from educating/entertaining their children.

We are working in conjunction with state and local experts for an in-person program operation at some point this summer and will use that information to help guide our on-going decision making to safely offer a modified on-site program in conjunction with the virtual program. Although we have altered the fundamental structure of Summer Fun at JWP, delivering the same authentic, professional, and empowering experiences that you are used to receiving from our program is paramount.

WHAT IS VIRTUAL SUMMER FUN
Walnut Park Explorers: Open to Walnut Park students ages 3- 5: 9:00 am- 12:00 pm.
Jackson Adventurers: Open to anyone who is entering Kindergarten-Grade 6: 1:30 pm- 4:00 pm.
Virtual Summer Fun 2020 is something to look forward to this summer.  Virtual Summer Fun will be the screen time they crave that is socially engaging and personalized, in a virtually supervised environment. Children will be engaged with each other and familiar teachers like Ms. Lisa, and JWP staff.  Activities were chosen that allowed all individuals, regardless of age or ability, to participate.  Each activity is led by a teacher, with supplies and instructions shared on Padlet.com, to help children and their parents prepare for the day.

WHAT IS THE PARENT'S ROLE?
Our staff is trained to guide the children through the daily program without parental assistance. However, this depends on the comfort of your child with technology and the ability to work independently. You are welcome to stay with your child during the class if you feel it is necessary.  The program is offered to multiple age levels to provide daily LIVE engagement with a parent nearby, but not participating directly. The LIVE engagement portions are broken up throughout the day to allow off-screen breaks and completion of off-screen activities.

HOW WILL IT WORK?
For the time being, we will be using different platforms to communicate with families and children.
     ZOOM.com
**Children are not required to share their videos.
**Teachers will moderate the rooms for any technological or issues that occur during a meeting and provide feedback as needed.
**We will ask parents for contact information- so that if there is something urgent, we will call during the meeting.

     PADLET.com
**This is a great way to share pictures and videos of your child’s completed projects. Children are also encouraged to write positive comments on other children’s posts.
**Each Padlet has a unique website link and can only be accessed if you have the link.
**Please note: for additional child privacy and safety, teachers will moderate all postings.

SUMMER EXPLORATION BOX
Inside your Summer Exploration Box, you’ll find the materials you need to participate in our daily activities.  Summer Exploration boxes can be picked up at the school the weekend before the start of each weekly session.
