Supplemental Music Lesson Program
Parent/Student Information Sheet

Supplemental music lessons are offered as enrichment to the 6th through 12th grade music program instruction, provided by private contractors. These lessons are designed to utilize the characteristic literature and exercises of the voice, rather than to rehearse the music a student will be performing in his or her school organization. Participation in these supplemental lessons is optional, but highly encouraged.

This year, lessons are offered to interested students on campus, once a week for approximately 25 minutes. You will schedule your day/time with your voice teacher. The cost per lesson is set district-wide and adjusted periodically in accordance with local market factors. The 2023-2024 rate is $22 per 25 minute lesson. Guidelines from the Texas Education Agency, allow private contractors to be paid directly by students or parents. Checks should be made out to the individual private instructor. Private music contractors are responsible for all matters related to billing and collection of fees for lessons.

Students who elect not to participate in supplemental lessons will not be penalized in any way related to their music class activities. All students will have access to supplemental lessons. Students and parents interested in supplemental music lessons should complete this form.

Student’s Responsibility To the Supplemental Music Teacher:

1. Be fully prepared for each lesson.
2. Follow guidelines pertaining to absences.
3. Provide documentation of required practice time each week.
4. Supply method books and other materials as required by the teacher.
5. Participate in all activities required as a condition of private study.

It is the responsibility of the student to notify his/her supplemental music teacher at least 24 hours in advance if the lesson is to be canceled, unless a serious emergency arises. If the student does not notify the instructor of their absence prior, the standard rate will still be applied to the student. This courtesy is also the responsibility of the private teacher if he/she must cancel a lesson. The school director will aid the student in advising the private teacher of concerts, holidays, etc., which would result in any interruption of the regular lesson schedule.

Please be aware: Lessons are a year-long commitment. In signing up for voice lessons, you are reserving a spot in your private teacher's studio, and are therefore obligated to remain in lessons throughout the remainder of the school year.

Questions concerning assignments and teachers should be directed to Mrs. Porter or Mrs. Meyers. Questions concerning lesson dates and times, billing, or number of lessons taught will be handled through the private teacher.
