WHERE DOES THE NYC POPULATION FACTFINDER GET ITS DATA? The NYC Population FactFinder draws data from two sources: the American Community Survey (2014-2018) and the U.S. Census (2010). With time, it will be updated with more recent data from each of these surveys. NOTE: Statistical data that is up to 5 years old is considered usable and current as it takes so much time to collect and properly process data on populations.
Now, let's explore what kind of information the NYC Population FactFinder can provide you. Go to the page here: https://popfactfinder.planning.nyc.gov/#12.25/40.724/-73.9868            There are two ways in which you search for an area: 1) enter an address in the box that reads "Search location," 2) Click on one of the top tabs -- census tract, neighborhood tabulation area, community district tabulation area, community district, or any category from more geographies-- and then select the area you want by clicking on it on the map.
NOW FOR DATA.CENSUS.GOV. Data.census.gov is the way in which you can access census data on a specific zip code, town, city, county or state. This search tool conncts you with multiple tables on a geographic area covering specific aspects of topics as wide ranging as emploment, living arrangements, health, housing, education. Watch the video below to see how it works. NOTE: To get a full screen view of this video copy and paste this URL into a new tab: https://youtu.be/XNtvO27r2g0
DATA.CENSUS.GOV ADVANCED SEARCH. As the video above explains, you will need to use the Advanced Search in this tool to get information on a specific neighborhood, for example. You can do that by selecting a series of filters as the arrows below show: Geography > Zip Code Tabulation Area > New York . ZCTAS 10031 (the zip code for Mangatanville). Note that each new set of filter options will pop up as after each of your selections. They will not all be visible at once as shown in the image below. Now, copy and paste the this  data.census.gov into a new tab and set up your advanced search by selecting the same filters pictured below and hit search.
After putting in all your geography filters for Manhattanville and hitting search, you will get this window. Click on "Filter."
Clicking on "Filter," will bring you back to the "Advanced Filters" page. This time, you want to click on "Yopics" to add a second layer of filters to your focus on the Manhattanville zip code.
When you click on "Topics," you can choose from a list. Let's say the vulnerable population you are interested in is the uninsured. You can click on "Health,: which will then lead you to the subtopic of "Health Insurance."
Now you will see a page that lists several tables related to health insurance on the column to the left. Scroll dow and select the table entitles SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS OF HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE IN THE UNITED STATES.
Looking at the information in the central panel for SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS OF HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE IN THE UNITED STATES, determine  which race or origin corresponds to the highest percentage of uninsured?
