About the Program
The Chatham-Kent Princess of the Furrow program was designed for young ladies, 11 - 16 years of age (as of January 1st, 2019) to provide them the opportunity to be a representative for their community and an ambassador for agriculture. A Princess of the Furrow is judged on 3 competition components including an interview, speech and impromptu question.

Interview (250 points) – 5 - 10 minute interview with a panel of 3 judges
Speech (250 points) – 1 - 2 minute speech on the topic of your choice relating to agriculture
Impromptu (40 points) – Top five will receive an impromptu question, at the judges discretion at the local level

As a representative of the Chatham-Kent Plowmen’s Association, the Princess of the Furrow participates in a number of activities along side the Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow such as local fairs, farm shows, school visits and 4-H events. She will also compete at the International Plowing Match the year following her crowning against Princesses from across the province for the title of Ontario Princess of the Furrow.

The competition for the 2019 - 2020 Chatham-Kent Princess of the Furrow will be held Saturday, August 10th, 2019 at the annual Chatham-Kent Plowing Match. At this event, competitors will spend the day with a panel of 3 lovely judges who will score them on their speech, interview, and possible impromptu.

The winning contestant will spend the year shadowing the Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow and go on to represent the Chatham-Kent Plowmen’s Association at the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) in 2020, provided a competition is held. The Princess of the Furrow is required to have a chaperon throughout the duration of her time at the IPM.

Deadline for entries in the Princess of the Furrow Competition is July 30th, 2019.
