Please fill out and submit this form to express your interest in participating in the Fairfield Garden Initiative Program's educational workshops. This form is a survey to assess interest, those that qualify will be contacted in the near future to register for the program and workshops. Space is limited for the workshops, they will be restricted to 20 in-person participants. We hope to record these workshops and make them available to the community.

Garden Planning: Different Garden Styles: Understanding different garden styles, the best garden style for your location, where it should be and how large it should be. A brief introduction to seed starting.
Soil Health Basic: Understanding soil health as the basis for healthy food. Learning how to assess the soil health in your garden. Understanding the basic concepts around accessing a soil health baseline and soil testing
Bed Preparation: Getting your beds ready, plus planning for perennials. Warming up your soil, dealing with weeds and bio-mass, prepping your garden for planting. A brief introduction to container gardening.
Planting and Transplanting: Plant Acquisition, Hardening off, Transplanting, mulching, living green covers, interplanting
Composting: Setting up a vermi-compost system, learning about two other backyard composting styles, materials sourcing, maintaining and maturing compost, inoculating with purchased and IMO’s biologicals
DIY Fertility and Amendments: Bio-Fertilizers, Bio-stimulants, KNF and natural farming methods, planning ahead. A brief introduction to Foliar Feeding
Pest and Disease Management: In-field plant health assessments, identifying, marking and managing mother plants for seed saving. Learning about how to manage and minimize pests and insects in the garden. Brief introduction into water managemen
Seed Saving: Understanding why seed saving is important, how to determine which plants in your garden you want to save seed from, and the process of maturing those plants to maximize seed quality, saving seeds and checking for
Canning, Fermenting, Pickling, Dehydrating and Cooking: Three Additional hands on workshops will focus on preserving the food we grow in our garden and will include hands on experience with canning produce like excess tomatoes, fermenting vegetables like cabbage, making pickles from an assortment of vegetables, using the dehydrator and freeze drier to extend the life of vegetable, and strategies and techniques for cooking food and vegetables from your garden
