SEJ Conference Travel Diversity Fellowships Application
The Society of Environmental Journalists and The Uproot Project are partnering to offer diversity fellowships (worth up to $2800) to support journalists’ attendance at #SEJ2024 in Philadelphia.

Please note: Fellowship funds are extremely limited; if you have other sources of funding (such as your employer's travel budgets or student conference funds) please pursue those first to maximize the funds available for your fellow journalists.

#SEJ2024 Conference Diversity Fellowships will provide:
  • Complimentary SEJ one-year membership/renewal, if eligible ($70 value)
  • Complimentary conference registration inclusive of ticketed events ($800 value)
  • Up to five (5) nights’ lodging at SEJ’s conference hotel ($1000 value)
  • Travel (airfare, ground travel to/from airport, and travel day meals) reimbursement up to $1000

Application requires:
  • Resume/CV or LinkedIn profile (students can provide college transcript)
  • Letter of support or recommendation
  • Links to portfolio website or recent, relevant environmental coverage

Applicants must be a member of (or join) SEJ, the Uproot Project, or one of the affinity J-groups listed below.

International applicants: Conference organizers are unable to send invitation letters directly to consulates on behalf of a potential attendee. Invitation letters are prepared solely for individuals and are emailed directly to them. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure documentation is correct and completed in a timely manner before you start your journey. It is recommended that an application for a visa be made at least 10 weeks prior to the proposed travel dates.
