This session of Queeries Sex-Ed for students 12-14 years old (Middle School ages) will be taught over two days: Sunday, November 26th & Sunday, December 3rd from 10am until noon.
Each day, we will spend an hour covering concepts related to puberty, including the impact of different hormones on bodies, anatomy, products needed for self-care and managing sexual health (deodorant, pads, tampons, bras, binders, puberty blockers, condoms, etc.). The other hour will be spent covering concepts related to healthy relationships (platonic and romantic) with an emphasis on consent, how to set and maintain boundaries, and communicating in ways that build strong friendships and romantic relationships.
This class is designed for students who have reached the age of puberty and are thinking about whether or not they want to begin romantic relationships. We will be using age-appropriate animated videos from Amaze.org, engaging powerpoint presentations, discussions, physical activities, and art projects to engage students.
Our Sex- Education program is Queer-Centered, meaning it will be inclusive for all bodies, genders, sexualities, types of families (when we discuss family planning), etc. Trans and non-binary students will receive an equal sex-education class to their peers that is inclusive for their puberties and relationships.
This class will have a "Question-Box" where students may ask any question anonymously and they will receive an answer from the facilitators at the beginning/end of each class.
We recommend the purchasing of a copy of "It's Perfectly Normal" 2023 ed. for students on the younger end and a copy of "S.E.X, 2nd ed.: The All-You-Need-To-Know Sexuality Guide to Get You Through Your Teens and Twenties" for older students who may need more comprehensive information.
