Exchange and visiting students do not have an official major at UH Mānoa. Instead, every exchange and visiting student must choose at least ONE academic department that will serve as his or her 'host department' for academic advising and course registration assistance purposes while attending UH Mānoa. Normally, exchange students choose the department where they anticipate taking MOST of their courses from. However, the choice of host department does not prevent the exchange student from taking courses in other departments in addition to his/her host department. An exchange student may take courses in a variety of academic areas while attending UH Mānoa.

Courses are subject to space availability and exchange students must meet any necessary course prerequisites by showing that they have obtained an adequate academic background in the subject matter from their home university prior to receiving permission to enroll.

Prior to application, exchange students should begin to familiarize themselves with UH Mānoa course offerings by browsing the relevant departmental websites for course descriptions and syllabi (sometimes available on the departmental websites). A note about course numbering:
100-400 level courses are considered undergraduate-level courses
500-level and above are considered graduate-level courses

Until the class lists for your intended semester(s) of study have been posted online, you may wish to use the previous year's semester availability as a general guide to what courses *may* be offered in the coming semester(s).

...must already have a good foundation in a similar business field at their home university and possess a strong command of the English language (normally evidenced by a TOEFL iBT of 80+, TOEFL ITP of 550+, or IELTS 6.5+). Students with interest in business coursework without this necessary background and English proficiency level are encouraged to explore alternative course options.
