Imagining Possible Futures Workshop RSVP
Event name: Imagining Possible Futures
Date: Friday, 26 May 2023 10:00-14:00

The idea of futures is one that is often associated with uncertainty. However, while the future is not material, it can be perceived and questioned. How expansive or imaginative are the lenses commonly used to frame futures? How can these frames be used to counter hegemonic power relations?

Thus, with these complexities in mind, we have invited speakers from local community organisations whose work centres around solidarity, mutual aid, and activism to outline discussion on the role that everyday solidarities play in shaping how we imagine the ‘future’ and how to translate these imaginings into material realities. In other words, the aim of “Imagining Possible Futures” is to highlight how solidarity work opens possibilities of shaping a more inclusive and equitable future and utilize these insights to facilitate engagement between various forms of activism and academic research.

In the first part of the event, we are asking speakers to present on the aims and day-to-day activities of their organization. Following a lunch break, the second part of the event aims to generate a more sustained and mutual dialogue through roundtable discussions. We hope that this event will present the opportunity for both groups to form strategic partnerships and relationships that may be carried on past the workshop.
