Film Screening: Dashi & Shoyu - Essence of Japan
Ever wonder what makes Japanese food so delicious and full of flavour? It's UMAMI!

Come join us in learning about two umami filled staples of Japanese cuisine. "DASHI & SHOYU: Essence of Japan" is a film that explores secrets of the fifth taste “umami” and a unique Japanese bacteria called “koji”. Co-produced by French and Japanese major TV stations and production companies, ARTE France and NHK, Point du Jour and ASIA Documentary, the film features two pillars of Japanese cuisine, dashi – one of the purest & simple umami stock, and shoyu – a savoury source made from the tradition of Japanese ancient biotechnology. This documentary won awards for Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications in 2014.

During the event, we will also participate in an umami tasting activity as outlined by Umami Information Centre in Japan.

This is a free, joint event organized by JCCOC & JETAABC, and supported by the Japan Foundation, Toronto.

Deadline to register is Wednesday June 12, 2019.
