Workshop "Broadening the picture – addressing the transgenerational dynamics of sexualised violence"
The workshop by Pia Frohwein (medica mondiale) will take place on Nov. 10th from 2 PM to 5 PM (CET) via Zoom.
With the war in ex-Yugoslavia in the 90s sexualised violence increasingly became visible as a systematic weapon of war. It is a destructive form of violence which has a long history and does not stop with peace negotiations after conflict.
In this workshop we will look at the effects of sexualised violence for survivors, but also for the communities and the societal level. Trauma is never only individual but also collective. We will explore some relevant causes behind sexualised violence to understand how it is embedded in structural forms of violence and power dynamics which might be invisible yet powerful. To sensitively break the cycle of transgenerational dynamics, we need to address individual needs as well as the context. The STA – stress and trauma sensitive approach was elaborated by medica mondiale in close cooperation with partner organisations and includes guiding principles which provide orientation in addressing the effects of trauma as well as the core causes behind sexualised violence. We all can contribute to this through strengthening stress and trauma sensitivity.
The 3 hours workshop will include input, Q&A as well as interactive parts to discuss the practical application of STA – stress and trauma sensitive approach. The number of participants is limited to 25. This workshop addresses people broadly working in the field of collective violence (either transnationally or nationally) as well as the general interested public.
