Classes for Spring 2024 (April 14-May 19)
Reconstructing Bible Basics by Sally Loose (and Charles Corlett, John Jay Alvaro, Brian Young, Alex Linscott and Bailey Payne)
This class is for folks newer to Christianity or folks reconstructing their faith. Many of us know about Bible reading plans and stacks of memory verses. Now let's explore the Bible again with an understanding of its complexity. There are wisdom parts, narrative stories, poetry and letters, just to name a few. What difference does the context and origin make? Is diverse thinking helpful or problematic? Learn from a variety of guest teachers what they gain from the Bible and why we should approach it in the first place.
Spiritual Values in Literature: Lila by Rene Scheys
Join us we read, discuss, and appreciate the award-winning novel Lila by Marilynne Robinson! This sequel (of sorts) to Robinson’s Gilead tells the story of John Ames’ wife Lila, an impoverished girl who grows into a woman living on the margins of society, class, and faith. Above all, Lila is a novel about the many means by which love finds a space to flourish in this world. Copies of the book will be provided, and you do not need to have read Gilead to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate this story!
