Walnut Hills Elementary needs volunteers like you to help provide all the amazing PTO-sponsored activities our students and staff experience all year long. There are many ways to get involved in PTO: joining a committee or the Executive Board, helping in a classroom, or donating through a SignUp Genius during the year are just a few.

All committees are directly supported by the Executive Board, as well as previous committee members. Time commitments vary by committee or activity. PTO welcomes all family and caregivers of Walnut Hills students, and we have opportunities available for all time commitments and interests. PTO is a great way to get involved and make new friends!

PTO Committees - multiple volunteers needed per committee, check all that apply *

Fun Run - With a team of volunteers, coordinate the t-shirts, prizes, donations, flyers, day of logistics, collection and counting of money and sponsors for the WHE fundraiser.

Spirit Wear - Help design t-shirts/sweatshirts/pants/bags/etc. Publicize the sale, organize the ordering process, order items, and distribute the orders when they are ready.

Spirit Nights Out - Schedule monthly outings to local restaurants/businesses, in turn, they give back a % of sales to WHE. Advertise via emails and flyers

Teacher Appreciation - Using PTO funds and family donations, organize and provide monthly gestures/activities for the teachers and staff! Coordinate activities during National Teacher Appreciation Week.

Recruitment / Volunteer Recognition - In the fall, prepare information to welcome families to WHE, introduce PTO, and identify PTO's volunteer needs and goals. Coordinate with Administration to ensure new families receive information throughout the year. Recruit volunteers as needed and connect them with committees. Work with Committees to recognize volunteers throughout the year.

Yearbook - Document the school year with photos from school life, field trips, and classroom activities. Coordinate layout with Yearbook provider, organize sales and distribution.

Striders - Coordinate volunteers to monitor student’s laps ran/walked during recess, three days per week. Document student’s progress and offer incentives. Encourage participation at Grand Blue Mile Kids Strong event during Drake Relays for those who qualify.

Talking Canvas - Coordinate classroom volunteers for this art education program, maintain/organize the supply closet, update artist information for volunteers to choose from and order supplies as needed. Work with WHE administration to schedule participants in Visiting Artist program.

Classroom Parties and Parents - Recruit classroom parents and party volunteers. Provide directions and resources to Classroom Parents, provide Party Planners with direction regarding activities/snacks.

Box Tops - Work with teachers to ensure they have collection materials, promote benefits of participation and submit box tops within collection time frames.

School Supplies - Coordinate the orders for prepackaged school supply kits for the following fall. Coordinate volunteers to help deliver kits to classrooms.

Book Fair - Organize two book fairs in conjunction with Fall and Spring Conferences and work with WHE Librarian/book vendor/volunteers to coordinate ordering materials, setup, sale, and tear down.

Conference Meals - Coordinate meals for teachers/staff in conjunction with Fall and Spring Conferences. Recruit volunteers to help with setup/teardown, donations, ordering.

Social Media - Keep our families up to date with WHE PTO Facebook posts, distribution of meeting minutes and contribute to PTO website as necessary.

Grants - Educate staff about the Grant process, organize submission of grant requests, and manage voting. The process is student driven with guidance from teachers/staff members.

EDI - This committee is an expansion of what was formerly the Sister School Committee. While the WHE PTO will continue to build its relationship with DMPS's Lovejoy Elementary (through curriculum-based student and classroom connections and community & family connections), the WHE - Lovejoy relationship will be only one way in which our community expands the equity, diversity & inclusion conversation at WHE.

Spring Fling - With a team of volunteers, coordinate a Spring evening of fun (on or off site)
