Please complete this form if you are interested in auditioning for the 2023/2024 En Avant Youth Ballet Company.

Note that the En Avant season runs from August 2022 - February 2024 and ALL choreography will be set over the summer. During the season, dancers will have required technique ballet classes and will be required to attend some ballet Master classes.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Open to dancers age 9 - 19*

*Age is based on age as of January 1, 2024

PREREQUISITES FOR AUDITIONING:

- Dancers must be skilled at a minimum of Ballet Level 4 unless otherwise approved by Miss Jana or Miss Trudy, or specifically invited to audition.

- Dancers must have a minimum of 3 years of serious ballet training in order to audition.

Audition Fee: $25 per dancer
Upon submitting this form, your account will be charged $25 (for current MDM students).
Fees must be paid in full in order to audition.
All outstanding balances must be paid in full in order to audition.
For new or non-MDM students, fees can be paid in person on the date of the audition.

REGARDING GROUP DANCES:

For the upcoming season, we are planning to potentially cast several group dances. These dances would perform/compete at the following: 1) Fall or Winter convention 2) possibly YAGP in February, and 3) possible participation in other local dance competitions for dual company members.

Note about YAGP:

YAGP participation is not guaranteed and will be determined based faculty opinion of readiness for a competition of that caliber. If a group does not compete at YAGP, it's members will still be invited and encouraged to take the Master classes offered at YAGP for the incredible instruction.

REGARDING SOLOS:

Please note that by checking this box, you are not guaranteed to receive a solo. Casting is at the discretion of our faculty, but we are interested in knowing whether this is a financial and time commitment you are interested in making.

For planning purposes, the cost to participate in 1 solo approximates $800 - $1,500. Dancers with YAGP solos will also compete them at the Fall/Winter convention and may also be allowed to compete one or both of them at local dance competitions with our Competition Company (these would be added entry fee costs).

Generally speaking, En Avant soloists will not be considered for other solos on the Competition company except is special circumstances.

I would like to choreograph my own solo. I understand that this is subject to MDM faculty approval and only open to advanced high school level dancers.

EN AVANT CHOREOGRAPHY:

Most of the En Avant choreography will be set over the summer and in the month of August.

Some of the group choreography may be set during our Technique Intensive which takes place the first week in August. In order to be cast in a dance that will be set by a guest instructor, you must be present for the choreography. Please keep this in mind as you plan your summer vacations and reserve the first week of August for choreography and other training.

Please note: physical and/or mental considerations must be taken into account during the casting process as both physical and mental health of our dancers is a top priority. AUDITION EXPECTATIONS:

MDM dancers must have all accounts up to date in order to audition.Dancers must audition in person unless they are ill, quarantined, or at a required family and/or school event.

Dancers should wear a black leotard, pink tights and hair in a traditional ballet bun to the audition.

Dancers should arrive 10 - 15 minutes early in order to check in at the front desk and get an audition number.

Casting is at the full discretion of the MDM faculty and is done in a manner that primarily takes the success and confidence of the dancer into consideration.

Dancers who wish to audition should plan to keep the month of August as free as possible for setting choreography.

Communication regarding placement on the En Avant Youth Ballet Company will be made within 2 weeks of the audition. Casting information will be released AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Please do not email regarding casting until after July 15th.

TIMELINE AFTER AUDITIONS:

Acceptance:

Communication regarding acceptant on En Avant Youth Ballet Company will be made within 2 weeks of the audition (no later than June 7, 2023). A deposit of $250, paid by June 20, 2023, will be required to secure your spot on the team.

Casting & Financial Contracts:

Casting information & related financial contracts will be released in mid-July. Please do not plan to receive this information before July 15th. It is our goal to begin working on solos prior to this date, but it is possible that the totality of casting and contracts will be out at a later date due to the fact that your finance contract is combined with your Competition Company finances.

While it may seem that this is a long timeline, please understand that we take this process very seriously and that it takes an enormous of amount of time. We are very careful and meticulous with this process and seek to provide the best opportunities for every dancer. Please focus on this fact as you wait for more information over the summer and refrain from emailing us or asking us about this information until after July 15th. Thank you!

Mandatory Parent Meeting:

There will be a mandatory parent meeting over the summer. This date will be communicated to you with your acceptance letter. Please make note of it and plan to attend.
