MPCS Git Bootcamp - Autumn 2021 (ONLINE)
DATE: Saturday, October 9, 2021
TIME: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CDT

The Git Bootcamp is recommended for students with a programming background and beginning the MPCS with Core Programming. The Git Bootcamp is not recommended for students going into immersion, as it will be difficult for students with no programming experience to follow the material. The course will be available to those students when immersion programming is completed.

Git is the industry standard for collaborating in software development.  Furthermore, the majority of MPCS courses will use Git for homework submissions and group projects.  This workshop will provide the necessary competency to use Git in the MPCS and beyond.

The workshop will include hands-on tutorials, with opportunity for hands-on assistance.

The topics we will cover are:

- How Git records history
- Branching and merging workflows
- De-mystifying merge conflicts
- Collaborative workflows on GitHub and GitLab
- Introduction to continuous integration testing

The Git Bootcamp will be taught by Ron Rahaman.

The Git Bootcamp will be held via Zoom and supplementary materials will be uploaded to Canvas. A secure link and password will be sent to registered participants ahead of the event.

Please note that attendance is limited to registered MPCS students only.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS 5:00PM CDT FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8TH

Recorded materials will be available to those who cannot attend on Saturday, Oct 9th. More information about how to access the online materials will be announced after the bootcamp.

If you have any questions about the bootcamp, or would like to be added after the registration deadline, please feel free to contact masters-admin@cs.uchicago.edu.
