Community Gathering to Give Feedback on Living Expenses Focused on Energy Bills
Huong (Sherry) Tran will be facilitating a 5-7-person focus group in early-mid May on behalf of The Environmental Center to gain the perspectives of people from communities who have traditionally not been engaged by local planning efforts.
We’re in the very early stages of gathering information from community members to help set goals around saving energy and money on electricity and heating bills and producing our own renewable energy in Deschutes County. We want to hear from the community early enough in the process so your input can actually inform the process.
The goal is to understand how people use energy in their homes, how energy bills affect people’s daily decisions, and what energy and transportation-related improvements can be made to make our community more livable. All input will be confidential.
This focus group will be 2 hours. Snacks will be provided, along with a $75 stipend for participation. We will follow current COVID-19 protocols for Oregon. The format will be a roundtable with an informal conversation with Huong Tran as a facilitator. Huong has a Master's of Science in Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management. With the combination of their lived experience as a holistic practitioner and restorative educator, they process potential stress and conflicts with the focus of reducing harm. Their pronouns are she/they. Huong has lived in Bend, Oregon for 15 years. As a first-generation American, POC, immigrant, and coming from
a refugee of an enslaved family, they are mindfully dedicated to disrupting oppression. They believe expertise is not a substitute for lived experiences.
