We, as staff members, call on Stanford University to serve as an example to other institutions and businesses by continuing to support all staff as it would if the university were running at normal in-person capacity. Stanford has proven itself a leader in preparedness and timely contribution to containment of COVID-19, and now is the time to be a leader in buffering the economic impact of the crisis.
Staff are the backbone of this university, whether they be supporting research efforts, ushering students through their degrees, managing finances, securing funding, maintaining systems of technology, or providing landscaping, fire safety, utilities, dining, or custodial services. Full-time or part-time. Benefits-eligible or contingent.
We call on Stanford University to pay all contingent (casual/temporary) employees at their current (pre-COVID-19 campus closure) base rate of pay, even if reduced operations result in a lack of work.
We call on Stanford University to continue paying for contracted services such as custodial, mail, and security (e.g. UG2, Allied Universal) and ensure that these contracted companies pay their employees at their current (pre-COVID-19 campus closure) base rate of pay, even if reduced operations result in a lack of work.
In this time of uncertainty, we take care of each other and uphold Stanford’s guiding principles to promote public welfare by exercising influence on behalf of humanity and anchor our efforts in integrity, ethics, inclusion, and human welfare.
