RSVP for: Navigating the Federal Employment Process or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love USAJobs.

The Global Research Institute is hosting a virtual seminar on Saturday October 28 from 10 am to 11:30 am on the U.S. government's recruitment and hiring process. Students will receive focused, individual training on writing effective federal resumes, as well as feedback on federal resume drafts. Specific topics discussed will include the difference between the Competitive Service and the Excepted Service; the USAJobs “referral” and “interview” process; which GS levels to target for entry-level roles; Schedule A, B, C, D, and E Excepted Service appointment authorities; Competitive Service direct-hire authorities; Boren, Fulbright, and Peace Corps hiring preferences; DoD “highly-qualified expert” and “intergovernmental personnel act placements,” and security clearance adjudications. Registration is limited to U.S. citizens.

Jimmy Zhang is a GS-14 Strategic Analyst at the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy and an Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Prior to joining DoD, he worked in multiple roles at the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2016 and holds a M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown University.
