2023 Capistrano ACCELERATED Math Course Placement Testing - Registration for 7th & 8th Grades
Please complete this form if your child is transferring into a Capistrano USD middle school for the 2023-24 school year and would like to test into an accelerated math placement. If you are enrolling for standard Math 7 and Math 8 courses there is NO NEED to complete this form. 

**Incoming 6th grade students will be placed in Math 6 and might qualify for Pre-Algebra Accelerated after completing the i-Ready diagnostic during the first two weeks of school. If your student qualifies after the fall diagnostic assessment, then they will be moved to Pre-Algebra Accelerated.

Placement tests will be given for the following courses. Some courses require PROOF of prior accelerated placement. After you enroll, an email will be sent asking you to provide proof of a transcript indicating prior math placement in 6th or 7th grade. 

- Incoming Grade 7 Pre-Algebra Accelerated. This course will cover a year and a half of content (Math 7 and Math 8). 
NO prerequisites are required. 

- Incoming Grade 7  Algebra. This course will cover a year and a half of content (Math 8 and Algebra). 
PREREQUISITES REQUIRED - Please submit a 6th-grade report card that provides documentation that your student completed a math course in 6th grade that covered Math 7 and a portion of Math 8 content. A 6th-grade accelerated course that covers only 6th and 7th-grade content does not qualify for taking this placement test. 

- Incoming Grade 8  Algebra. This course will cover a year and a half of content (Math 8 and Algebra). 
PREREQUISITES REQUIRED - Please submit a 7th-grade report card that provides documentation that your student completed a math course in 7th grade that covered Math 7 and a portion of Math 8 content. A 7th-grade accelerated course that covers only 7th-grade content does not qualify for taking this placement test. 

- Incoming Grade 8  Geometry. 
PREREQUISITES REQUIRED - Please submit a 7th grade report card that provides documentation that your student completed an Algebra course in 7th grade.

PASSING SCORES: 

Study guides for the placement tests will be emailed to you after you register. 

Pre-Algebra placement test requires a 90% passing rate. A retest will be offered if the first test score is between 75% - 89%. 

Algebra and Geometry placement tests require an 80% passing rate. A retest will be offered if the first test score is between 65% - 79%.

Testing Date: August 14th

TESTING THAT IS NOT COMPLETED BY THE ABOVE DATE WILL TAKE PLACE THE WEEK OF AUGUST 21ST. YOUR STUDENT WILL NOT START THE YEAR IN THE ACCELERATED MATH CLASS AND WILL BE MOVED IF THEY QUALIFY.
