Umoja Learning Community here at Golden West College would like to formally invite you to our events this semester!
If you aren’t well acquainted
with Umoja, we are a learning community dedicated to
enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of African American students
on campuses across the United States. The actual word, Umoja, is Swahili for
“unity.” Umoja is a national foundation with regional consortiums. Our goal is
to help uplift our black student voices and provide them pathways to graduation
as well as transferring to HBCUs, UCs, and CSUs.
We will be holding various events throughout the semester such as porch
talks, guest speakers, workshops, and field trips. Porch Talks are a safe space
for students to build a sense of connectedness, learn to advocate for
themselves, and discuss important topics in the Black community. We will be
having various resources available for our students to succeed on and off
campus.
Please list your GWC email below if you are interested in signing up for Umoja or would like to learn more!
