Who doesn't love a field trip? Students have traditionally engaged in learning opportunities while attending field trips around the state. The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) is updating the Virtual Field Trip listing. This resource is provided to educators to supplement their instruction, whether they are teaching in-person or through distance learning. Our goal is to provide options for locally grown virtual field trips so students will learn about our state's natural resources, attractions, history, and culture. Field trips are valuable since students learn from experts and allow students to experience something new. In these times, typical field trips or class visitors will not be possible, but teachers can employ virtual options.
Keep in mind:
* While a typical field trip might last all day, a virtual field trip is best to be 30-60 minutes. Shorter duration would be best for younger audiences. Longer visits could be sectioned into separate sessions..
* Think outside of the normal field trip- a single tour guide may have access to show more than what students typically see on a traditional tour. Get creative!
* Considering the limits on school budgets, it would be a challenge to charge for these field trips. Please consider this a gift to students and an opportunity to showcase your organization.
The RI Department of Education will update our listing of virtual field trip options shared with educators from Pre-Kindergarten through high school. If you would like to have your organization's offering included, please fill out the form below. If you have multiple options for field trips or can differentiate the field trip for multiple grade levels, please fill the form out separately for each. If you have any questions, please email
