Below are the available suicide prevention and mental health trainings provided by the Nevada County Department of Public Health and its partners.
KNOW THE SIGNS
Learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide and resources available to help. (30-minute to 2-hour workshop, offered by request)
SAFETALK
Learn to prevent suicide by recognizing signs, engaging someone, and connecting them to an intervention resource for further support. (4-hour workshop, offered 3-4 times each year)
ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills and Training, offered 2-3 times each year)
Learn to prevent suicide by recognizing signs, providing a skilled intervention, and developing a safety plan to keep someone alive. (2-day workshop, offered 2-3 times each year)
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. (8-hour workshop offered by What’s Up Wellness)
YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. (8-hour workshop offered by What’s Up Wellness)
