At ECVS, junior high students participate in complimentary courses or commonly referred to options. You will be placed in a new option every quarter, for a total of 4 options this year.  You will not be permitted to take the same option twice. 

Options will run at the following times each week:

Wednesday - Grade 9s: Blocks 4 and 5

CTF Course Descriptions:

Art: Explore your creativity in our dynamic junior high art class! Immerse yourself in a world of colors, shapes, and textures as you learn various techniques like painting, drawing, and sculpture. Express your unique perspective while discovering the joys of artistic expression. Your teacher will guide you through exciting projects that will expand your skills and cultivate your passion for art. Unleash your imagination and join us for a fun-filled journey of self-discovery through the captivating world of art! This course is open to students with little experience to those who wish to expand their artistic talents! This course has a $25 fee per student.  

Food Science: In this option, students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to use a variety of food preparation techniques to plan and prepare nutritious, tasty and attractive foods. Using critical thinking skills, students will work as a team to complete the day’s recipe in an efficient manner. Through these recipes, students will gain knowledge, skills and attitudes that have immediate and future applications in their personal lives, as well as in local and global environments. There will be a $30 fee per student.

Leadership: Leadership class is designated for students who would like to be involved in planning and implementing school related activities. This includes, planning activities for elementary classes, planning grade 9 fundraisers, and more. Each class, students will have the opportunity to run and participate in ice breaker activities to practice their leadership and participation skills. Looking for students who are positive, respectful, and ready to participate!

Sports Performance: Sports Performance aims to provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and attributes needed to understand the factors related to sports performance. This will be accomplished through a combination of theory and practical exposure to various areas of sport and training; including sports leadership, nutrition, sports psychology & strength and conditioning. Half of the class will focus on theory work and the other half of class will be strength and conditioning training taking place @ Anytime Fitness. *Please note this course runs half the year and not quarterly*

STEM - Digital: Come and explore the fun and creative side of Science Technology Engineering Art and Math! This class will focus on a wide variety of student-led projects including digital art (3D printing, graphic design, DIY stickers and posters), coding and robotics (Micro:bits, Sphero, Hummingbird, VR, Scratch), learning about AI, taking on engineering design challenges, science or math-themed art projects, exploring local ecosystems and so much more! Projects and challenges will vary depending on the season but YOU will get to have a say in what we explore together!

Woods: Students will learn the tools and techniques of the wood shop, with an emphasis on safety, through hands-on learning. Students will design and build a shelf or decorative cutting board from exotic hardwoods. This course will have a $40 fee per student.
