Outstanding New Work: Awarded to a playwright, theatre company or collective that has produced an original theatrical work created by the playwright(s) or collective. An adaptation is considered a new creation by the PRA. If the production has only had a reading in the past, it can still be considered as a new work. Remounts will not be considered for this award.

Behind the Rideau Award: Awarded to individuals who do not fit in the aforementioned categories. Examples of eligible candidates may include (but are not limited to): stage managers, technicians, crew members, publicists, administrators, volunteer board members, etc. Please note this award requires a written letter of nomination received by the production company before the end of the season. This letter should detail the involvement of the individual and will be evaluated by the jury.

Emerging Artist: Awarded to an artist of any theatrical discipline whose work has appeared in an eligible production, and who is deemed to be in the first three years of their professional theatre career/discipline, and who has not already won a Prix Rideau Awards. The period of eligibility begins immediately upon graduation from a formal post-secondary institution, or at start of first professional contract, for artists who did not complete formal training.

Please note that if you are submitting for "Outstanding Community or Student Production," you will not be eligible other categories.
