At LAEN we were one of the lead organizations that pushed for the successful removal of the SRO program at the largest school board in Canada, the TDSB in 2017. Our current LAEN campaign is for #PoliceFreeSchoolsONWide across all educational levels including post-secondary campuses (
https://www.change.org/PoliceFreeSchoolsONWide).
We know that the issue of police in schools and the school-to-prison pipeline is not an isolated or local issue. It is not just a one school board or one post-secondary campus issue. It is a systemic issue that demands a systems response. Having healthy, equitable police-free schools is a public health issue, is a labour issue and it is a legal obligation. It is a human right.
Part of our LAEN #PoliceFreeSchoolsONWide campaign is to elevate, support and connect local campaigns that are happening across Ontario pushing for police-free schools, coordinate knowledge-exchanges, actions and pressures on the provincial government and local officials.
So we want to know are you already organizing for police-free schools at your local school board and/or post-secondary campus? Are you not organizing yet to push for police-free schools but are interested in organizing locally?
Please fill out this form as we want to connect with you and invite you to our LAEN: Police-Free Schools Political Teach-In & Co-Build!
