Hello and thank you so much for volunteering to help with our annual FVL Schools Beginning Band Camp!  Our plan is to have as many "section coaches" as possible.  One-on-one would be the ideal!  Adults and directors will each be in charge of Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion, and students and other interested adults would help to fill in as individual coaches/helpers for our beginners.

Our plan is to give the beginners a good start on their instruments, with the first day devoted to learning how to put instruments together, figuring out the fingering patterns, and making a good initial sound.  The goal is to be able to play a few notes on their instrument.  The second day we would like to put the kids together into a "band" and play some music together.  All section coaches will be invited to be a part of this ensemble as well!  The more the merrier, and having section coaches play along will ensure that the "beginner band" will sound excellent in addition to being a fun experience for all of our players.

The camp will begin at 9:00 AM and run until Noon.  We will have arrival and registration between 8:30 and 8:50, at which time we will welcome our new band students and issue instruments and music.  Adults could certainly help with this first task, even if you don't have any instrumental background.

Student and adult section coaches should bring your own instrument, if possible.  All FVL owned instruments SHOULD be back from Heid Music for summer maintenance.

You may dress casually, but please follow the FVL dress code.

Your help with this two-day camp is very much appreciated!  We want to give our FVL Schools Band Beginners the very best initial experience possible.  Your friendly smiles will go a long way to giving these future band members and their parents a great start on their instrumental careers!
