CMS Oceanography Field Trip May 6th & 7th 2019
WHAT: CMS is headed to the beach! We will explore the unique ecosystems of the Oregon coast near Cascade Head and the Salmon River Estuary and study oceanography through first hand-experiences and on-site laboratories at our home base for the trip, Camp Wi Ne Ma.
WHERE: We'll be staying in the cabins at Camp Wi Ne Ma.
WHEN: We will depart Monday, May 6th (after Morning Meeting - between 8:30 and 9:00) and return Tuesday, May 7th. Our goal is to return to school before 5:00 P.M. but, with a long drive and the potential for traffic delays, we may arrive later. As with all of our trips, students will make contact with you via cell phone should our return time vary drastically.
WHY: This trip supports our science studies and the community we have built and fostered this school year. This trip will be remembered for years to come!
Students will need:
- lunch for Monday (can be ordered from cafeteria)
- refillable water bottle
- sleeping bag
- pillow
- basic toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, hair-brush)
- sunscreen
- towel
- sturdy walking shoes - we will be hiking REGARDLESS OF WEATHER
- appropriate outerwear - it's the beach, in Oregon, in May. Rain should be expected.
- 1-2 changes of clothes
- a cell phone - ONLY to be used to call about arrival time. Cell service is very spotty where we are staying. Students are not allowed to use cell phones during the trip.
- a positive attitude, an open mind, and a sense of adventure
Students will NOT need:
- money (there's no place to spend it)
- candy or gum, energy drinks or sodas, junk food
COST: We are requesting a contribution of $40 per student to cover the cost of food and lodging. All students will be able to participate in this trip regardless of family's ability to contribute. If you can't contribute $40, feel free to give what you can. If you're willing and able to give an additional to sponsor another child's participation in the trip, you are more than welcome to do so! It's much appreciated! PLEASE MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO "CORBETT SCHOOL DISTRICT" with student name in the memo line and send in payment with your child to school.
If you're chaperoning, we are requesting a contribution between $25 and $40 based on what you're comfortable paying. We understand you're coming as a chaperone and volunteering your time, possibly unpaid from your job. However, this contribution will help cover the cost of food you'll eat on the trip and the accommodations for your stay.
TRIP PARTICIPATION: If your child will not be attending the overnight field trip, they are still expected to attend school. They will have access to a normal school day.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have more than one middle schooler coming, you'll have to complete this form twice.
