Culinary School Application Form
The Bite of HOPE Culinary Institute is a fast-paced culinary program
whose goal is to empower restaurant cooks, aspiring restaurant owners,
and the general public with valuable culinary techniques, food service
management, and the concept behind the power food has in health.
This unique culinary program, that centers on food and health, provides
participants with the tools they need to become successful culinary
specialists. By building the core skills used in the kitchen – from culinary
techniques, market sourcing, to the use of kitchen equipment,
participants are ready to seamlessly start a culinary career or food
entrepreneurship journey and succeed, while helping increase healthy
food access in communities.

Eligibility criteria:
1- Age: Meet minimum age requirements (18 years old).
2- Language : The program will be conducted in English. For student whom English is a
second language, translation will be available.
3- Kitchen skills : No previous kitchen experience required.
4- Time commitment : Students must commit to regular attendance for the program
duration 12 weeks classes will be held in the evenings and weekends.

Candidate Characteristics
Bite of HOPE's globally inspired curriculum reflects Houston's diverse culture! While, it's
important that our future chefs come from different backgrounds, it is important that they
all share certain common characteristics:

Passion for cooking: Students must demonstrate that they are ready to work hard. A chef
needs passion and perseverance to withstand the often long hours and physical demands
of a busy restaurant. A love for cooking helps the chef enjoy what he does as opposed to
feeling overwhelmed by the work.

Commitment: Students need to show commitment and determination! Candidate must
be committed to the success and growth of the program.

Endurance: Students must have the ability to handle high stress environments. When a
chefs owns his own restaurants, it is not uncommon for chefs, especially owners, to put in
12-hour days several times a week.

Creativity : A strong drive is key! Future chefs must have the so-called "fire in the belly"
that motivates them to succeed.

Intuition : The food and beverage world is fast-paced and in need of quick-thinkers.

Mentorship : Great chefs are always sharing knowledge with their team. Chefs see the
kitchen as a teaching ground for the next in line!

Teamwork skills: Student must have the ability to work well in groups.
