Thanks for wanting to help Synth Library Portland! We're looking for adults who are kind, conscientious, enthusiastic about the library's mission + community, and based in the PDX area.
  • We want all sorts of volunteers, so please apply even if you feel unsure or unqualified. Modular synths intimidated all of us at some point!
  • Beginners are welcome and encouraged to apply. A huge portion of what we need help with has nothing to do synthesis or music or video or DIY electronics or creative coding, so you can know nothing about these as a beginner and still be a hugely valuable part of the team.
  • You have something valuable to offer. Our organization's needs are numerous, varied, and ever-evolving which means all kinds of people - people with differing skill sets, perspectives, past experiences, demographic characteristics, and levels of expertise are necessary to for us to thrive.
  • You pick how you volunteer. You don't have to sign up or agree to help if it's not something that excites you. Lending facilitation, event staffing, teaching workshops, and administrative tasks are all so different that we anticipate most volunteers will only choose one or two areas in which to help.
  • You pick when you volunteer.  While you are expected to show up once you have committed to help on a specific day (or find a replacement), there are really no expectations in terms of time commitment. Even if you only sign up to help once every few months it truly adds up and takes weight off of other volunteers and staff. If your schedule varies seasonably and you are unavailable for large chunks of the year that is not a problem at all, we'll see you when you're back in town or have free time again.
  • Bullies, bigots, and drama-synthesists need not apply.
