The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for Children, or simply Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) is for students ages 7-17 who were not baptized Catholic and now wish to become Catholic, OR for those students ages 7-17 who were baptized Catholic and missed receiving sacraments as they got older.
RCIC prepares students to enter the Catholic Church through the Catholic sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. Students may receive all of these sacraments at one celebration, or may receive them separately over the course of several years, to be determined by individual circumstances.
There are multiple forms RCIC may take:
- Push In Model - Sacramental preparation in conjunction with parish or school religious education classes
- Pull Out Model - Sacramental preparation as a complement to parish or school religious education classes
- Additional Class(es) Model - Sacramental preparation in addition to parish or school religious education classes, typically after school, in the Vaughan Center or school library
PLEASE NOTE: If you prefer either the pull out or additional class model, you are consenting to your student working one on one with an adult instructor - Sarah Maland. Sarah has teaching experience working with students as young as 18 months through high school. She is safe environment certified in compliance with Utah Catholic Schools and Diocese of Salt Lake City regulations. You may request to be present for your student's RCIC sessions.
Study texts will be provided at no cost to the student:
Students in 2nd-6th grade will utilize Our Catholic Faith as their text.
Students in 7th-10th grade will utilize One Faith, One Lord as their text.
Students in 11th-12th grade will utilize Symbolon as their text.
