The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”), a federal law, requires that CORE Butte Charter School (CORE Butte) with certain exceptions, obtain prior written consent from a student’s parent/guardian prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the student’s education records. However, CORE Butte may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” about a student without prior written consent from the student’s parent/guardian, unless the student’s parent/guardian has “opted-out” of the disclosure by providing CORE Butte with advance written notice in accordance with CORE Butte’s procedures. In addition, federal law requires CORE Butte to provide military recruiters, upon request, with a student’s name, address, and telephone listing unless the student’s parent/guardian has advised CORE Butte that they do not want their student’s information disclosed without their prior written consent.
“Directory information” is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released. Directory information can be disclosed to outside organizations without a parent’s/guardian’s prior written consent. CORE Butte has designated the following information as directory information:

Student’s name

Student’s address
•
Parent's/ Guardian's name
•
Parent’s/ Guardian’s address• Telephone listing
• Student’s electronic mail address
• Parent’s/ Guardian’s electronic mail address
• Photograph, Video, Recording, etc.
• Date and place of birth
• Dates of attendance
• Grade level
• Participation in officially recognized activities, sports, and promotional purposes
• Weight and height of members of athletic teams
• Degrees, honors, and awards received
• The most recent educational agency or institution attended
• Student ID number, user ID, or other unique personal identifier used to communicate in electronic systems that cannot be used to access education records without a PIN, password, etc. (A student’s SSN, in whole or in part, cannot be used for this purpose.)
Instances of the school’s usage of directory information may include marketing pieces showcasing student achievements, sharing anonymized data to establish trends and outcomes, yearbook production, etc. The school does not nor does it intend to create, publish, or publicly make available a contact “directory”.
If you do not want CORE Butte to disclose directory information from your child’s education records or provide military recruiters with your child’s name, address, or telephone listing without your prior written consent, you must either opt-out via this opt-out form or notify CORE Butte in writing at the time of enrollment or re-enrollment.
