Due to the steady rise in traffic fatalities due to speeding, I request that the Pennsylvania's Legislature extend and expand the automated speed camera program to all of Philadelphia, especially Lincoln Drive, all High Injury Network roads, and any street where dangerous speeding is a problem. Automated Speed Cameras save lives and reduce speeds in a fair and equitable manner. These speed cameras have an immediate effect on making our roads safer for everyone.
The automated speed camera pilot on Roosevelt Boulevard has reduced speeding tickets by 95% since its 2020 inception.
Traffic calming street redesigns cost millions of dollars and can take years to be implemented - but we cannot wait. All of Philadelphia deserves safer, more equitable transportation infrastructure. As my elected representative, I urge you to take leadership on this issue and pass legislation this year to expand the Automated Speed Camera program to all Philadelphia, where ever they are most needed.
