Keebsake Lid Design & Inserts - 3 Quick Questions
Ran two different acrylic lid designs and two premium insert (brass & copper) prototypes and would like some feedback! The WKL version wraps perfectly around the shape of the case. For fun, I wanted to try a non-WKL design. It has the standard lid look at the expense of a small gap where the lid crosses over the blocker. From normal viewing angles you don't really notice and it looks quite nice. I teeter back n forth on which is my favorite so I will let you decide.

A lid of this design will run about $25 at breakeven. The only way to cut the price down by at least half, is by using injection molding . This is an option I am willing to consider ONLY after seeing how many cases sell. Molds cost a few thousand so the economics have to make sense. The downside of injection molded lids will be visible flow and pin marks as seen below. I have discussed with the manufacturer and these marks can be on the side walls of the lid instead of on top. The lower price point is nice in case you scratch the lid and want extras.
Could you live with pin marks on the sides of the lid if it meant the lid would cost between $8-12?

Raw brass insert (left) & raw copper insert (right)
Brass & copper will both patina over time but can be polished to look good again. Do you prefer raw brass/copper or clear coated brass/copper? The coatings will increase the cost.
