Hello and thank you for your interest in Johnson United Methodist Church's Youth Basketball League! Our league info is listed below. We also ask that you please register ASAP so we can ensure we have everything in place for your little ballers!
Where: Johnson United Methodist Church Family Life Center - 3409 Johnson Rd. Norton OH 44203
When: Every Sunday starting February 11 and ending March 10th. 12pm to 1pm.
Cost: $30.00 (Please contact us if you need help with payment. Many of our church members are eager and willing to sponsor players whose parent or guardian can assist with the league as needed, whether it be sweeping the court, coaching, etc.) We accept cash, check, or Venmo.
Who: Any boys and girls in First through Second grade, or in that age range if home schooled.
The general structure of our league is as follows:
All grades and genders will be playing together. The hoops will be lowered to 8 feet tall. All players get a reversible mesh jersey that they are required to wear each week and is theirs to keep. We ask that you please have your player(s) wear an undershirt as they will be asked to switch their jersey color depending on the circumstances. We also ask that you please have your player(s) bring a clean, dry pair of shoes to play in. We will have basketballs that players can use while here, but you are more than welcome to bring your own.
If you were with us last year, you will remember we had an open gym on Wednesdays. We unfortunately cannot accommodate that this year because we have so many wonderful activities happening in our gym throughout the week that we would love to see you at! On Mondays there is Zumba; Tuesdays there is an indoor disc golf putting league; Wednesdays has Youth Group, Zumba, and Volleyball; and Thursdays have adult open gym basketball. If you're interested in any of those activities, I will gladly get you more info on them! The JUMC congregation also extends a warm welcome to our Sunday morning service at 10am.
Based on how our inaugural league went last year, our practice and game time is going to be more condensed. Practice will take up the first 30 minutes with the players going through different drills and practicing different skills a few minutes at a time at different stations. The games will take up the last 30 minutes with four 7 minute quarters. The timing of everything will be fluid and is subject to change based on the overall fitness levels of the players. We do ask that you please show up 15 minutes early to allow time to change shoes, take some warm-up shots, etc. and be able to start promptly at noon.
Concessions will be available with healthier food and drink options.
Regarding missing a week, we understand life happens. All we ask is that you please let us know via email/call/text if your little baller will not be there that week. Failure to do so can have adverse affects on that week's planned drills and your player's playing time the following week.
On the last day, March 10th, please join us at our 10am service as we celebrate your players! We will have a medal ceremony, parade through the fellowship hall, watch a highlight video, and enjoy some healthy snacks between the service and our final practice and game. We also have our world-renowned "Second Sunday Breakfast" from 9am to 10am that day, and we would love to see you there! This includes waffles, bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns. Gluten free waffles are also available.
