DIT GLOBAL MEETUP OVERVIEW & POLICY
The Deschooling Issa Thing (DIT) Global Meetup is BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colored) centered. This means that our group is centered on respecting and amplifying the black and brown voices of our group.

Non-BIPOC folks are welcomed, specifically those who are:

  • Parents of Black and Brown children
  • Creating or currently engaged with groups or organizations with black and brown community members
  • Committed to Deschooling their parenting practice with an openness to sit with and listen to BIPOC members who choose to speak about the harmful impact of race/racism in their practice. This also includes invitations to “Call-in” folks into the space, if those boundaries are not honored or communication in the chat and/or voice is identified as racially biased (overt or covert) language.

We intentionally say “Call-IN” instead of “Call-OUT” because these moments, though unfortunate, become a real-time learning opportunity to respectfully explore the harmful impact of racism and the ways it shows up in our daily movements. An opportunity to pivot toward deeper understanding and healing through restorative approaches. These moments are never easy for all involved but in the words of James Baldwin, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."

Membership into DIT is waitlist only. To ensure that the DIT community aligns with your intention and needs, all potential new members will be invited to join the next available DIT meetup to learn more about you and provide additional information about the DIT community to support sustaining a brave and safe space.

After three consecutive occurrences of “No Call/No Show,” your spot will be offered to the next waitlist member. When joining a meetup, please make sure you enter the name you’re registered under to confirm your attendance and to support community members in getting to know you.
